The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

This annual carol service will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
